Why You Should Become a Dental Assistant

Becoming a dental assistant is a great career opportunity. You could work under several Dentists and have the opportunity to see several dental procedures in action. In this career you can offer people with the necessary dental care & mental support.

  

People often confuse Dental Assistants with Dental Hygienists. But both are different and perform different dental procedures. Dentists do all kinds of dentistry while Dental Hygienists only deal with cleaning patient's teeth and Dental assistants work under both of Dental Hygienists & Dentists.

Dental Assistants are in high demand and there is speculation that this will be one of the fastest growing job opportunities between now and 2012. Dental assistants are accepted all over the world.

Working a Dental Assistant is entails working normal hours. There are no night shifts or double shifts, which mean dental assistants get the opportunity to spend hours with family in the evening. Moreover, they also get paid holidays off. Dental Assistants get huge amount of discount on dental assistance & care for themselves. They also get this discount for their children & spouse too.

Dental Assistants may have to do several other jobs related to dental clinic besides assisting dentists & dental hygienists. They may be required to setup dental rooms and also do complete lab works & perform X-rays. It increases their experience & area of work too. But this extra work requires permission of state of residence. Permission for this can be got from the dental office. Because different states may have different job definitions, it is always a good idea to find out exactly what the job entails if you are planning on becoming a dental assistant.

A Dental Assistant needs to interact with people and he needs to have excellent communication skills. If you have all these, then you can enjoy the job of Dental Assistant. As a Dental Assistant, you will have to work with people & dental professionals daily. It will have a great impact on you & it will increase your communication skills & personalize too. This will increase your experience & will have a great impact on your future career.

Certification of Dental Assistant is typically valid for one year. But it also depends on the course you enroll in. To obtain a Dental Assistant certification you would require extra three months training. The state you reside in would normally decide what to enroll for upon completion of this certification. Generally employers setup this course and training free of cost for potential employees.

Dental Assistant as a career is a fun & rewarding profession. Since technologies & dental procedures are updated daily, it is important that Dental Assistants keep up to date with the latest innovations and technologies.
